We are Kenny and Ginny. We call Northeast Wisconsin and Michigan's Upper Peninsula home during the summer months. Together, we enjoy recreational boating on the Oconto River and the Bay of Green Bay and camping in the cooler northern states. When the boating season is over, we become snowbirds and head south for the winter with our luxury DRV Moble Suites 5th-wheel trailer that we call Château de Sallé.

I bought the Château de Sallé in July 2018 with my late wife Nancy after our Monaco Windsor motorhome, OWFISH, was totaled in an accident.

Blow Out

Well, yesterday started okay. I've been having problems sleeping and was awake around 2 AM. I stayed in bed, though, until around 4. I was on the road by 7:30 on my way to Big Springs, NE, a 260 mile, 5-hour drive. I'd be there by noon. A light snow was falling, and the traffic going through Colorado Springs was heavy. The winds picked up while I was on I-76 Eastbound. Everything was going well until about 11:30 when I noticed a wheel well fairing on the trailer had come loose. Then the day got BAD. I had blown a tire on the trailer. Not only that but the other tire was shredded, a brake line was ripped off.

I get on the phone and call my road service. I'm on I-76 at mile marker 167, and I need HELP. A heavy tow truck finely gets to me at 8:00 PM. Since it was late and everything was closed, the road service opted to take me 25 miles up the Interstate to Big Springs to get me off the side Interstate in a safe location. We got there at 11:30 PM. It took another 3 hours to get my truck and trailer off his trailer. I got to bed around 3:00 AM and was awake again around 5:00 AM. Today's mission is to find someone who can repair the damage enough that I can continue my trip to Wisconsin. I won't be back to Oconto on Saturday as planned.

Colorado Springs, CO

I was on the road by 7 this morning on my way to Colorado Spring. It was a very windy drive and after getting here it started pouring rain. Tomorrow's leg will take me to Big Springs, NE.

Going Home

I leave out tomorrow morning for the long trip back to Oconto. This is a trip that I really dread doing. There's nothing up there for me anymore except a house full of stuff that I have to get rid of in the next few months—all of it. There's no love in the house anymore—just memories—those I can take with me. I'm thinking of selling the house and living full time in my trailer somewhere else. I'm even thinking about living in Mexico. I've been looking at an RV resort on the Pacific coast of Baja California. You can't beat the weather there. I have a 2-year-old Golden Retriever that needs a new home too. I'll keep Charlie because he's easy to travel with.

In Loving Memory

The love of my life and best friend, Nancy Louise Sallee, passed away this morning.

She was undergoing a medical procedure at the Mountain View Medical Center in Las Cruces, New Mexico when she had a heart attack. The medical staff was unable to revive her.

Her final wish was to be cremated and buried with her late husband, William Benchley.

Nancy and I had a great life together. We traveled to many parts of the country together during the eight years we were married.

Goodbye, Nancy. I will always love you.
